Maisa Alhafez
is a Syrian musician based in Istanbul. She is the conductor of the multicultural Istanbul Mosaic Oriental Choir, Their repartuar involves the classics of Turkish, Arabic, Armenian, Kurdish, Syrian, Aramaic ... Together with the choir they fundraise for events and raise awareness for peace building and rehabilitation. Maisa also gives pyscho-social support to the Syrian children in her neighborhood under her project "Tomorrow is Better" that she manages together with Mohammad Diwana who is based in the Netherlands. Together with her choir Maisa has performed in various occasions, venues and TV channels: Hrant Dink Human Rights Award night / Lütfi Kırdar Concert Hall, British, Deutch, French consulate events, Goethe Istanbul events, St. Antuan Church, Small projects Istanbul fundraising event, Which Human Rights Film festival Al Jazeera TV, TRT Arabic, CNN Turk, Haber Turk… “Ballad for Syria” (2017) is her first auto-biographical documentary film that she directs it together with her good friend Eda Elif Tibet.
is an independent documentary filmmaker and anthropologist from Istanbul. She filmed and directed award winning documentary films under her own label www.karmamotion.com , a non- hierarchical collective run by academics, artists and activists. She obtained her PhD from the University of Bern ( 2019) and holds an MPhil degree on Social Anthropology from the University of Kent (UK, 2013).
